New Balance has built its enterprise on creating quality product based on functional design. This is a theme and philosophy dating back to their origins, and evidenced throughout their history. Case in point would be in 1982, when New Balance released the $100 990, which was draped in suede and adhered to Vibram soles. When $100 seemed ludicrous for a sneaker, New Balance proved the shoe held its worth, which is why the 990 is still in rotation 32 years later. Following suit, New Balance seeks to launch the ultimate Made in USA line with their Bespoke Collection. Nothing but the most absolute premium materials will be used to craft tried and true silhouettes. The first model to receive the Bespoke treatment is the famous 998, which is upholstered with premium Horween leather. The Horween Leather Company has been an American leather mainstay since its inception in 1905, crafting leathers utilized by brands ranging from the Alden Shoe Comany to the National Football League. Horween now applies its richest leather to the 998 to create an undeniably premium sneaker pack. Two models comprise this collection - the M998WD and the M998DW. The M998WD features the classic American silhouette in a deep burgundy Horween leather with red trimming hits seen throughout. Its counterpart, the M998DW, is lighter in tone, and features a chestnut brown leather with mustard yellow trimming. The leather features incredible qualities, including the fact that it molds to its wearer's feet by the natural heating caused by wear; similar to a high-grade dress shoe. The New Balance M998 Bespoke - Horween Pack is available now at Kith Manhattan and online at KithNYC.com.
