Originally introduced in 1993, the Gel Kayano Trainer was Asics's most advanced step into the performance running world yet. After solving the issue of tongue slippage in 1991 with their unorthodox split-tongue, other sneaker companies started developing their own solution. NIKE, under Tinker Hatfield, pioneered the wave of neoprene inner-socks with exterior TPU components. This new formation of sneaker provided intense security and stabilization, while guaranteeing optimal comfort and max performance. Models such as the Gel Lyte V, which was also released in 1993, practiced this new formula. The Gel Kayano Trainer expounded on the Gel Lyte V's silhouette by adding additional TPU harnesses amongst the lateral and medial sides of the sneaker, as well as a sturdier heel cup. After seeing a revival early this year, the Gel Kayano Trainer is receiving more and more makeups, such as this most recent "Ultramarine" colorway. The mudguard features a hue between a dark blue and purple, while the majority of the upper is draped in a black mesh. The TPU harnesses and heel cup are also black, while the sweeping midsole is displayed in white with red and vibrant blue hits. The same shade of bright blue is also visible amidst the neoprene inner-sock liner, while all Asics-branding hits are red. Tonal flat cotton laces finish this extremely strong execution, and harken back to a time when the Gel Kayano Trainer was the pinnacle of performance. The Asics Gel Kayano Trainer - "Ultramarine" is available now at both Kith NYC locations and online at KithNYC.com.
